How do trades happen in baseball after the trade deadline?

I just don’t understand the purpose of the trade deadline. The deadline was almost 2 months ago but I keep seeing players get traded. How is this?

Any player can be traded at any time. The only difference between the 2 time periods is that a player traded prior to
"so call" trade deadline does not need to clear waivers
to be traded. If a player is traded after the deadline any team can potentially block the trade by claiming that player off the waiver wire.

Basically it’s like the honor system. Teams release players and other teams who wanted them pick them up seconds after they’ve been released. Why they allow it? Good question. It’s a nice undercut way of getting what you want after a rule that prevents that is in play. Good thing is they make you have the final roster by September(I think, not sure.)or the players who aren’t on the roster can’t play in the playoffs.

the players have to clear waivers after the trade deadline, rather than being just traded away, the players have to agree with it before they can be traded

I don’t understand why they even have the trading deadline, but the trades happen after the deadline because if someone wants to trade for someone (like the mets want Mike Cameron), the mets have to make sure know other team wants him then they can trade him.
