You ready to follow the Messiah into a Trade war we cant win?
From the Article: "Friday night, Mr. Obama, responding to a complaint by the United Steelworkers, imposed a 35 percent tariff on Chinese tires for cars and light trucks. China quickly responded by threatening to retaliate against American auto products and chicken meat, raising fears of a possible trade war…"

I’m not the world’s best chess player by any stretch, but don’t we get 95 percent of our crap from China? And don’t we sell them very little by comparison?
They might stop buying government bonds? Fine, we stop buying their crap! If they call us on it, drastic measures will be necessary. The Fed can buy whatever China won’t. Inflation? Yeah, through the roof, but chess isn’t a bloodless game.
Smoot-Hawley wasn’t the right thing for Hoover during the Depression, and maybe it isn’t right for us now, but I don’t think the New World Order is all it’s cracked up to be either.
In the end, America can feed herself and when it comes right down to it, that’s what matters most.
EDIT
Me Too:
In case you don’t see it, this is not a partizan issue. This is an American issue! Get with the program!!
You know what Me Too? I just read the other answers. My appologies for singling you out!

I just love the fact that we can no longer criticize the Chinese human rights violations because we don’t want to piss them off (Hillary Clinton said so…), but when the Union workers snap their fingers, we are leveling tariffs on imports from the country that owns us. I hope we are all happy knowing how we are taking one for the US Steelworkers Unions.
The funny part is-he is also in the process of alienating India with protectionist economic policies (has been for a while). So, we are basically bending over backwards to "build ties" with France and Russia (a plan destined to be a wonderous payoff, I’m certain) while at the same time straining relations with emerging economic powers.
Peace

Since he inherited this Almighty Mess from George and Dickie, President Obama is trying this best to create American jobs. By imposing a tariff on Chinese goods, perhaps American companies will have a chance to hire a few laid-off jobseekers.
A Trade War has been going on for quite some time, but it has been one-sided. That nine-story Chinese boat arrives three times weekly packed with goods and, in return, we send them another American Corporation. Truth is, we owe them so much money, thanks to George and Dick, that Republicans are drinking only Chinese Tea.

Let’s face it , if the Chinese cut the government subsidizing the tire industry then we wouldn’t have to place tariffs. Buy American and we wouldn’t have this problem.
